That 'Up North' Atmosphere: The centerpiece here is the gas rock fireplace. It gives you that instant, cozy Northwoods atmosphere without the hassle of hauling wood. Picture curling up there after a long hike—total relaxation.
Flexible Sleeping for 5: This two-bedroom cabin is set up perfectly for families or small groups. You’ve got a main bedroom with a queen bed for the adults. The second room is super versatile, featuring a bunk bed plus a single bed. That means you can comfortably sleep up to 5 people.

Common Questions
Cabin 1: The Original
"Where it all began, reimagined for your relaxation."
If you want to know the heart of Timber Bay, you start right here. Back in 1947, before the road was even fully paved, this was the very first building raised by our founders, the Niss brothers. Back then, it did triple duty—it was the resort office, the workshop, and the family home all rolled into one busy, bustling hub.
In the early 70s, the cabin took a little journey. We moved it from the center of the action (where the Trading Post sits today) to its current, peaceful spot nestled in the trees, giving it a solid new foundation and a better view.
Over the decades, we realized that while "roughing it" has its charms, our guests deserve a true sanctuary. In the 80s and 90s, we gave Cabin 1 a total transformation. We expanded the footprint to provide more breathing room, added a modern kitchen for slow family breakfasts, and upgraded the heating system to keep the Minnesota chill at bay .
But the real game-changer? The fireplace was added as the centerpiece of the room—the perfect spot to curl up with a wool blanket and a good book after a day on the lake.
Founder Wally Niss joked that after all the upgrades, "there is nothing left of the original structure". And he’s right—the drafty walls are gone. But the spirit of 1947? That’s still here, warmer and cozier than ever.
