Some things you just get right on the first try. Built in 1951, Cabin 2 has stood its ground in its original location for over seven decades. Why? Because when you find a view this good and a breeze this sweet, you don’t move an inch.

While its footprint is historic, its soul has evolved to master the art of relaxation. For the first few decades, it was a simple Northwoods outpost. But as the definition of "vacation" shifted from survival to revival, so did Cabin 2.

In the 80s, we started blurring the walls, adding the first iteration of the deck to bring the forest closer. But the real magic happened in the 90s and beyond, when we decided to let the light in. We installed a skylight—a rarity in traditional cabins—turning the living space into a sun-drenched haven by day and a private observatory by night.

We expanded the deck again (because you can never have too much space for morning coffee), stripped the exterior back to reveal the warm, honey-hued original wood, and installed a corner fireplace. Now, even on a rainy day, you can watch the storm roll in through the glass while the fire crackles in the corner.

It’s a cabin that respects its past but knows exactly what you need for your present: Light, warmth, and a view that hasn't changed since the Truman administration.
